Short Description

In this 2D base defence game, you fight against mutated squirrels that have hatched a devious plan to take over the world. You must build your base and arm yourself against waves of squirrels, other forest creatures, mutated human defenders and even rival squirrel factions. A range of weapons and defensive structures are at your disposal, requiring careful base planning to secure your position and expand your anti-squirrel empire. As the game progresses, you unlock new technologies and abilities that aid you in your quest to reclaim the world. Squirrels B Gone is an internal studio project.

What is a Base Defence Game Mechanic?

A base defence game is a type of video game in which the goal is to protect a fixed location — typically a base or fortress — from enemy attacks. The player usually takes on the role of the defender and must employ a variety of tactics and strategies to repel waves of enemies and prevent them from breaking through the base's defences.

Gameplay in a base defence game typically involves a combination of resource management, base building and combat. The player must gather resources and construct structures to strengthen the base's defences, while simultaneously training and upgrading units to fend off enemy attacks. Enemy waves generally become increasingly difficult to defeat as the game progresses, constantly challenging the player to improve their defences and refine their strategies.

Characters

To give each character an authentic feel, our team made use of the standard tools of a 2D artist. Photoshop allowed us to create intricate details and lifelike textures for our squirrel designs, while the Wacom tablet enabled a level of precision and control that would be difficult to achieve with conventional drawing tools. The result is a range of unique and charming squirrel characters, each with their own distinct personalities and quirks.

Skinny Squirrel

Skinny Squirrel

A truly nasty piece of work. Extensive prior convictions for predatory offences.

Crazy Squirrel

Completely unhinged. Adrenaline maxed out. Unpredictable. A ticking time bomb.

Stan

Stan

Don't be fooled by the cute appearance: Stan is a mean piece of squirrel.

Trains hard and drinks protein shakes — just to use that fitness against you.

Animations

Spine 2D is a powerful piece of software that makes it possible to create impressive and dynamic 2D animations with ease. Our animators have used it to bring a wide range of characters and creatures to life — from quirky and playful to wild and intimidating. Each squirrel features a variety of individual animations, including unique idle animations, a dedicated walk cycle and various death animations.
